Richard Broden-Cowell
Partner | Electrical Specialist
Richard Broden-Cowell has a lifetime of experience within the marine electrical industry, much of it as Managing Director of Sure Power Marine, or working with companies such as Sunseeker International Ltd, Discovery Yachts, Le-Purple Marine and Hamble Yacht Services, to name but a few.
He also has many years experience teaching the skills of boat electrics, as a college lecturer within the FE sector. He holds a L5 Diploma in Education and Training, assessor and EPA qualifications and delivers to all levels of marine electricians.
Richard currently sits on the BMEEA committee and ongoing review and development of the BMEEA code of practice ensuring the highest level of guidance is provided to the industry.
Richard is an approved and certificated lecturer for British Marine, to deliver the BMET, MEI and AMEI courses and is a lead electrical specialist in the development of marine electrical qualification including city and guilds 2473 and the marine electrical standard. Developing course content, delivery material and assessment methods.

Richard also developed and wrote the Electrical Propulsion training course for BMTA that is approved by the British Marine Federation and the BMEEA.

Richard has a passion for face to face delivery utilising a wide range of demonstrations and interactive teaching practices to engage his students and to support them in their goal and aspirations. Richard is always on hand to support any form of marine electrical training and provide advise and guidance on installations and best practices to meet the requirements of the industry. ​​
Owen Davies
Partner | Engineering & Electrical
Owen has a wealth of experience in the marine industry starting as a Marine Engineer where he spent 5 years working at sea before coming shoreside to work in various engineering roles before taking up roles at Bournemouth & Poole College (Lecturer and Lead IQA) and the Warsash Maritime School (Lecturer). Owen holds a foundation degree in Marine Engineering, a Level 5 City and Guilds Diploma in Education and Training, L3 assessors award & L4 IQA qualification and EPA qualification as well as being an approved trainer by British Marine and NMEA .
Owen has been working alongside Richard Broden-Cowell and Brian McKeown for over 6 years in various roles and project working together within the marine department at Bournemouth and Poole College delivering Marine Engineering and Marine Electrical across level 2 and 3 Qualifications. He also collaborated with Brian McKeown in the introduction of the L3 & L2 Diploma in Maritime Studies, creating the pre-cadetship program at the Bournemouth & Poole college and bringing in new employer engagement to support the learner's progression into full cadetships.

Owen then moved into his role as engineering lecture in cadet education at Warsash Maritime School. He is a phase one tutor and supports cadets from day one in achieving their aspirations. He conducts oral preparation sessions and assists in curriculum reviews and developments.
Owen has a passion for developing the highest standard of teaching and assessment and developing a space to explore ideas utilising digital technology.

Brian McKeown
Partner | Engineering Specialist
Brian has 25 years field experience in the Heavy Vehicle / Commercial and Plant Mechanical Engineering industry, before moving into a Marine Engineering Training and Teaching role in 2004. During this period, he has worked within the private and FE training sectors where he has worked closely with Richard for 14 years and Owen for 6 years.
During this period, he has used his field experience to develop and teach customised Marine Engineering programs for Babcock Flagship Ltd, and customised Marine Engineering Apprenticeship programs for Caterpillar, Honda and Volvo Penta UK. Currently he is the lead Marine Engineering Lecturer at Bournemouth and Poole College, delivering Marine Engineering Apprenticeship program, whilst working closely with local marine employers to ensure that their apprentices and staff receive the correct training.
He has introduced the Scottish Qualification Authority L3 & L2 Diploma in Maritime Studies into the college’s full-time study program. This enables students to develop their practical and academic skills prior to following a career path into the Maritime Industry via the Cadetship program or the Marine Industry as an Electrical or Engineering Apprentice.
Brian has worked closely with employers and the Awarding Bodies to develop the best training to meet the skills required for the marine industry. He is an RYA Diesel Engine Instructor, taught the MCA Approved Engine Certificate 1 (AEC1) course, and has delivered bespoke Outboard Engines and Hydraulics courses to meet individual employers’ skill / training requirements. He also holds a BA degree in Post Compulsory Education, is a qualified Assessor / IQA and hold a HNC in Heavy Wheeled/Track/Plant Technology.
​Ellie Davies
Administrator
Ellie is an experienced administrator. Her career over the last 10+ years has led her to work in a variety of environments such as local Further Education, Higher Education, JP Morgan Chase & Co, and the NHS.
From general HR advising, employee relations, recruitment, course administration and setting up work experience for young adults, she takes pride in providing the best experience for employees, customers and students.
You will find her working behind the scenes providing excellent customer service to our service users, and supporting Owen, Richard and Brian.
